Did you know January 1st is National Bloody Mary Day in the United States?
The Bloody Mary has many conflicting claims of who invented this popular drink. At this point, no matter who invented this drink, we can all agree it is perfect for a morning cocktail. The drink has evolved over the years, with bartenders around the world elevating the garnish and adding their own unique twist to the preparation and ingredients. The basic form of the Bloody Mary is simple; it is straight tomato juice and vodka. However, as the drink has evolved it is expected that it is made with a combination of spices and seasoning. One of my favorites is a Spicy Old Bay Bloody Mary. Enjoy!
- 1 quart chilled tomato vegetable juice
- 1⁄4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Tabasco sauce
- 3 teaspoons prepared horseradish
- 1 teaspoon Old Bay Seasoning
- 1 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
- 1⁄2 teaspoon celery salt
- 1⁄2 cup chilled vodka (peppered vodka is especially good!)
- Fresh lime juice, for glass rims
- Extra Old Bay Seasoning for glass rim
