National New England Clam Chowder Day is held on January 21 each year in the United States. There are many types of chowders, but none can come close to the famous New England Clam Chowder. This type of chowder is a soup base made with milk or cream, potatoes, onions and, of course, clams.
New Englanders take their prized chowder seriously. In fact, back in 1939 a bill in Maine made it illegal to add tomatoes to clam chowder. Sorry, no Manhattan clam chowder there! Traditionally, oyster crackers are served with the soup, so today is the perfect day to give your passengers a special treat on their flight or for you to enjoy a nice bowl of New England Clam Chowder of your own.
